Kazuhiro Kojima + Kazuko Akamatsu / CAt: Essence Behind

The attitude of Kazuhiro Kojima and Kazuko Akamatsu (CAt) toward their architectural works of the past ten years is disassembled into 12 keywords, clarifying the "essence behind" it.
They develop a building as an "open place" for stimulating vibrant activities. Their architectural spaces are created based on an idea, in which people, light, and air are considered as "flowing substances", and buildings are examined as places with continuously changing "groups of such small vectors". A space brings freedom to discover/develop activities there, and the freedom gradually expands beyond the building.
Through the essays explaining the 12 keywords and their 35 works, their thoughts and methodologies - which develop buildings oriented towards openness while always considering "the root of architecture" - are revealed.
